After a hearty & delicious breakfast of avocado, scrambled eggs & left over barbecue, we said farewell to our friends & rode off to Akaroa. Passing Birldings Flat & heading along SH75 we headed into the hills. Once in the hills, it was a beautiful ride with some lovely switchbacks where you could lower the bike & glide round & accelerate out of the corners.

There was enough traffic to notice it but thankfully most of them pulled over to let us pass.

Akaroa is a beautiful place, however, while it was my first visit there, I felt it had become spoilt due to the overtly tourist nature to it. I imagine it would be so enjoyable if the streets where not crammed with people. As you can tell, I am not a fan jammed packed streets most of the time.

Despite the place being overloaded with people, you can still see the charm of the place even if it is not possible to enjoy fully.

The day we visited, it was such a hot sunny day, so we had a quick walk around & then enjoyed a cold drink before heading back to Christchurch to continue on our journey south.

After returning back along SH75 (& the return ride was just as enjoyable as the ride out there) we continued south along SH1. While SH1 is fairly straight, it was an enjoyable relaxed ride with pretty nice weather.

As we entered Winchester, we decided to stop for the night & ended up camping at Winchester Motor Camp. After setting up camp, we spent the evening enjoying the sunset. We were beginning to experience the nice long evenings that the South Island has during the summer months where it is still light after 9.30pm – this is something I miss living in Auckland.
