It is the eve of the NZ legs of the Women Riders World Relay & I am making my way up to Waitangi. The weather on my journey is not the best but it is not the worst either. If I'm completely honest I wouldn't mind if the weather was worse than it is. I am on my bike & making another road trip. Not only that but I am part of history ‐ I am participating in a relay that spans the globe with my fellow women riders.
Given that tomorrow is a full day's riding plus the weather (I still do take the weather into consideration even though this is where I want to be) I have decided to go straight up SH1. This is pretty much the same route but in reverse that I will be travelling tomorrow.
Weather wise, I consider today's riding has been very fortunate as the previous night it was pretty windy & rainy. It is also similar conditions right now as I write this so I wonder what tomorrow will be like.
The ride up was nice & uneventful, however, it was bloody windy in some parts. I was blown about but it was manageable.
I arrived at the Copthorne Hotel Bay of Islands about 2pm & was greeted by the Road Captain Rachael Duffield in the reception area. I have to say, every stage of the event has been so well planned. I'm in awe of the amazing women who are organising the NZ legs.
As I arrived in the early afternoon, I had a few hours to myself before the event dinner so I spent the time charging all my GoPro batteries, repacking my gear & starting to edit today's footage. I also went out to fill up my bike & I feel really organised for tomorrow's riding.
The dinner was a buffet dinner followed by a really comprehensive briefing of tomorrow's routes & stops. Once again I have to say "Well done" to the organisers & I'm looking forward to the riding tomorrow.
We have an early start tomorrow with a 6:45am briefing just after the handing over of the baton, which, arrived tonight at 9pm.
