I left the Bella Vista Motel & headed along SH6 to Rapahoe Bay Holiday Park where I picked up Manny.
It was a slightly overcast morning as we headed further up SH6 sticking to the coast until Westport. As we continued on our journey, the sun came out so we enjoyed the sun as we rode. The road from Westport took us inland to Murchison so at that point we had pretty much done a full circle of the South Island and were back to roads we had ridden before. We continued along SH6 to Motueka then turned onto SH60 and headed into Kahurangi National Park – a road we hadn’t travelled before.
We had left the best ride for last, the road into Golden Bay was so bloody fantastic. While we had had such amazing rides the whole time, today, the conditions were perfect. We climbed through Kahurangi National Park, the sun was high in the sky shining bright. This road kept climbing & climbing & twisting through Kahurangi National Park with so many bends half the time we could not see each other. We were surrounded by greenery & the big blue sky.
Once we reached the top we continued along the twisty, bendy road descending into Golden Bay. I could tell Manny was loving the ride. The few times I caught a glimpse of him he had he arms stretched out wide with his face raised up to the sun as he glided down the road. I'm pretty sure (under his helmet) I could see a smile on his face.
At the end of that amazing ride we ended up in Takaka where we stopped for a nice cold beer as we had pretty much finished all our day's riding before finding our accommodation. Manny had the idea of staying at Rainbow Valley Community but unfortunately, they no longer run their camp ground so we ended up camping at Pohara Beach Top 10 Holiday Park.
We had a great dinner across the road from the camp ground at Plan B Café & Bar which was so convenient to where we were staying plus the food was great.
