Wow, the South Island never fails to amaze me with the beautiful scenery & the further south we go, the better it gets. Some may say that I'm biased given that my parents are Southerners but those who have travelled the South Island can vouch that my love of the beauty down there is not a result of proxy Southern pride.

The roads hug the curves of rivers & lakes until we climb into the mountain passes. Whether it is the mountain side or river beds we are riding beside, the views are absolutly stunning!

We started the morning by continuing to head south along SH8 passing Lake Pukaki which is really beautiful so we stopped to take some photos. With the vibrant blue water beside us, it made lovely riding. It was a relaxed start to the day.

Passing through Twizel & Omarama we continued on our journey with the road starting to become a lot of fun after leaving Omarama for Lindis Pass. Excitement levels rose & I had a continuous smile on my face.

Oh my, this was some awesome riding as we climb the bends on the pass. Wow, I wanted this to go on forever. Picture this, beautiful sunny weather, winding, climbing roads that felt enormous situated amongst an alien like world. The land so barren with a khaki green musty grey hue to it. Lindis Pass, while it was such a brilliant ride, was also a reality check as to how insignificant we can be when faced with this savage beauty.

After a morning of brilliant riding, we stopped for lunch in Alexandra before we headed east towards the coast. From Palmerston, we took SH1 down to Dunedin. Before finding accommodation for that night we stopped for a Guinness at Vault Bar & relive the day's ride.
